First In War, First In Peace . . .

One of the reasons I know that baseball is better than all other sports to be a fan of is because any team in the majors could inspire an equally moving, and equally true (for the writer) story of the greatest playoff series ever. Except for Texas Rangers fans. The Rangers -- and their predecessors, the faux-Senators -- just plain suck.

  1. what about the cubs. Soon noone living will have witnessed their last Series win.

  2. BAseball is a great game if it can inspire that level of adulation in a series no one outside of the tristate remembers. (not a cut-the same could be said of my own baseball memories on the tragedies of 72 and 92)"

1972-Bob Moose wild pitches away game 7 in the NLCS (called just the playoffs then)against the Reds. Roberto Clemenete's last game.

1992- The Pirates' last meaningful game is a loss in game 7 against the Braves as Sid Bream beats the throw. Barry Bonds' last game as a Bucco (when his big head was only metaphorical)

  3. Forget World Series wins, anon, this is about beautiful, dramatic moments in playoff series. The Mets lost the '99 NLCS. The Cubs have had similarly dramatic moments.
