American Idol Predictions

I don't know if it was the theatre, the tension or what, but both Bo Bice and Carrie Underwood, American Idol's finalists, were way off last night. Carrie in particular had trouble staying in tune. The judges, even Simon, were too kind--maybe they were swept away with all the love the singers felt in that auditorium.

Here are my predictions for tonight. First, the two-hour finale of American Idol will easily beat the ratings of the two-hour finale of Lost. Both will easily beat Law & Order on NBC and the Amber Frey docudrama on CBS.

As to who will be the American Idol, gotta go with Bo. Both have a deep fan base, and Carrie did have the slight advantage of going last, but I think the R&B vote is more likely to side with the rocker than the country girl.

Carrie will win for the simple reason she's better.

I wish you were right, caggstar, but I'm more confident of my ratings prediction than the other one. I agree that two hours of potentially exciting drama has got to be more fun than a two-hour show that really only needs to be one minute long, but American Idol almost always lands near the top of the top ten, while Lost usually ends up near the bottom of the top ten. I guess it's possible people will watch Lost at first but then turn over to American Idol to see who wins.

I want to point out that the top four featured two boys and two girls. Certainly not the "all the girls could go first" suggestion that pajamaguy put forth when we entered the top 12. At that time, I predicted that two of the three: Carrie, Nadia and Jessica would make the top four. Vonzell turned out to bring up her game and outlast Jessica and Nadia, but still, I said it would be two and two and was kinda right.

This time around, I do agree with LAguy completely. Both were way off last night, but I think Bo will (and should) win. Carrie is a dead eyed empty vessel who really can't interpret a lyric. Sure she sounds good, but really has no idea what she's singing about. Bo was in the bottom three once, but that was before Constantine got booted. A combined rocker vote could very well make up for it. That said, it will probably be very close. Two AI finals were smuck teams (Kelly vs. Justin and Fantasia vs. Diana) but this one falls into the Clay vs. Ruben razor-thin margin category.
