John, John, Is That You Carrying On?
I wasn't too insulted by John Kerry saying you should study hard or else you'll get stuck in Iraq. I'll even buy his claim he was referring to Bush and not our troops. It was a cheap shot to be sure, but just a nasty off-the-cuff comment and not much more.
His response to the ruckus, however, was insulting. He hardly said anything about his feeble attempt at humor and instead went on the attack, repeating talking points about Iraq, saying it was Bush who should apologize.
Yes John, we already know you believe nutty things about the war, you don't have to keep reminding us. You had three choices: keep quiet, rise above yourself and simply apologize, or make an ass of yourself. Why is that last choice always so attractive to you?

I found his explanation less than convincing. I think he thought he could get away with a quick jab and didn't realize how widely it would be distributed.
Even if his comments were really directed at Bush (which I doubt), they reveal a deep elitism that is at the core of this man.
A gaffe is not when someone makes a mistake, but when they accidentally say something true
(or that they believe to be)
Anyway if anyone truly cared about "insulting" the troops, the damage done by the publicity raised the Prez, Rush, Fat Tony and Deadeye Dick is far more extensive than some little Kerryism in a typically forgettable Kerry speech.
The troops weren't damaged a bit by anything from Kerry, especially anything conveyed indirectly. The ony damage there was to USS John himself.
Well, and a couple hundred Democrat candidates.
