History Is Made At Night
As readers of this blog know, Jeopardy! recently made history with a three-way tie.
Well, yesterday I heard a radio ad promising a contestant on the gameshow Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? will "make history." How long has this show been on, about two weeks?

I watch this show on occasion because it's mildly challenging and educational for my second-grade daughter. There has yet to be a question I couldn't answer, and I'll be mortified the first time there is one. I think the candidate selection process for this show has to be precisely opposite that of American Idol -- on Idol they select the very best and very worst candidates, for the different types of entertainment they can provide. Here, they only select the very mediocre, as anyone too good would make the show look as inane as it really is. E.g., here's the question a woman passed on for $500k, instead taking home $300k: name the continent that is also a country. I know you're under a lot of pressure on stage, but I mean, come on.
Wow she couldn't name Antarctica?
