Rousseau The Noble Savage
One of the complaints about Lost is, with all the mystery around, why don't people on the island ask more questions, or sit down and share information.
If you haven't watched the show at all, I'm now going to give away a spoiler for season two.
I was thinking about this when recently re-watching the episode where we first meet Ben. Rousseau has captured him and is turning him over to Sayid. She lets him know Ben is "one of them." Considering how much more she probably knows about Ben, this is amazingly tight-lipped. Her dialogue seems to be for the convenience of the plot rather than what she'd actually say.
Of course, she is sort of crazy, and has been living on her own out in nature for years. This can make people not particularly communicative. But what's the excuse for everyone else?

I was under the impression that Rousseau didn't really know anything about Ben -- yes [SPOILER ALERT] he has her daughter, but not necessarily through direct contact with Rousseau. (E.g., the girl was kidnapped from Rousseau without Ben meeting Rousseau.)
If, indeed, Rousseau knew more about him, then her behavior is very misleading.
MORE SPOILERS: It is true that Alex was taken away and Danielle hadn't seen her for years, and even that she tried to avoid the others on this small Island, but how could Rousseau know he was one of them unless she'd seen him on the Island before?
JUST DON'T READ THIS WHOLE THREAD IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TWO SEASONS AGO ON LOST.
Maybe the implication was that Rousseau did know him, but I was under the impression at the time that she had some sixth sense for detecting "Others" -- not literally, but she'd been there so long she'd absorbed some subconscious knowledge that led her to be sure he was lying.
However, after last night's episode, I started to think that maybe Alex was actually Ben's biological daughter, in which case Rousseau would have had to know a lot more about Ben. I'm very confused now.
Now the question is will Rousseau have a flashback. In the days when they had full seasons, I'm sure the answer was yes.
