Defamation Lawsuits Are Always A Great Source Of Petard-Hoists

"Clemens reportedly told Pettitte that he didn’t have sex with adolescent girls, but he did, on occasion, bring them home for his wife."*

*not a real quote. you know, just like The Onion isn't real either.

Whats the over-under on a Clemens pardon on January 19, 2009? (which would certainly help with any perjury problems but probably won't help with the defamation suit- "What reputation?- He had to be pardoned!"). I'm guessing this defamation lawsuit brought by Clemens will probably result in a 7 figure payment to MacNamee. Although a trial would be great fun.

I don't know their relationship, but right now I can't see Rusty Hardin's legal skills being in too much demand in the future.

I was in the audience for the Baseball Cocaine Trials in Pittsburgh in 1985 (Where 5 or 6 millionaires testified to put away a caterer who was their "pusher") Rusty sort reminds me of defense counsel, Adam Renfroe who thought any publicity was good publicity and behaved bizarrely throughout the trial (I believe he was later disciplined or disbarred for drug use himself).
Best Moments I saw (paraphrased from memory)during cross-exam of the KC Royals OF Lonnie Smith:

Q: (out of nowhere) So, Has Joaquin Andujar ever threatened your life?
JUDGE: Once more and its contempt.

....
Q: (to a confused Lonnie Smith)- Once more, sir, how did you know where to get the drugs? Was it because of hearsay?
A: What
Q: Hearsay. Hearsay. HEARSAY!
A: No. It was because of his say (points at defendant).
Q: No further questions

From ESPN.com Lester Munson's column

Professor Geoffrey Stone of the University of Chicago Law School, a nationally recognized expert on First Amendment and defamation issues, told ESPN.com: "It is not at all obvious to me how something like this could ever be admissible in the trial of his defamation case."

Glad to see the old guys are staying relevant
