"You couldn’t have a starker contrast between the multiple layers of checks and balances [at ‘60 Minutes’] and a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas writing.”
Cool. I got excited because local prices have just gone below $1.70 and my weekly fill-up has gone from $63 to about $27. Now I just need it to stay at this price for at least 250 more weeks.
Also purely from personal experience, as something who makes two separate 150 mile (off-peak) drives on 1-95 per week, it still still seems to that the shock from last spring has not worn off and people are generally driving slower. I used to average 75-80 mph on the trip and and was frequently passed by people going faster. I now average 55-65 and don't really get passed all that much more, except maybe for semis.
My psychobabble explanations are (1)the other economic worries have replaced the worries over fuel price and driving slower creates the virtuous feeling of saving money, and (2) once you're used to 60, it doesn't seem such a sluggish speed like it did when you were used to 80.

I was never able to get used to 55 on the highway.
