"You couldn’t have a starker contrast between the multiple layers of checks and balances [at ‘60 Minutes’] and a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas writing.”
We were listening to a report on cars being burned and stores being looted in LA this morning. My daughter asked who had won. I said "LA." She said, "then why are they angry?" I didn't have a particularly good answer.
I recall either Jay Leno or Bill Murray (as a guest on Letterman) remarking on why the folks in Detroit rioted after the Tigers won the 84 world series. He blamed in on George and Barbara Bush being in the stadium at the game. Remarkably prescient.
I vaguely remember Bill Murray doing that bit. (Was it for Detroit? Certainly could have been for a Chicago champion, like the Bears or the Bulls.) In any case, he said something like the people were already pretty excited by the victory, but when you add George and Barbara Bush--that put them over the top.
