"You couldn’t have a starker contrast between the multiple layers of checks and balances [at ‘60 Minutes’] and a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas writing.”
The Orphan opens tonight. I'm glad. I won't be seeing it, but this means it won't be long before they take down all those creepy billboards with the spooky kid.
The full preview (before The Hangover) was even creepier. I hate horror movie previews, because I have to be in the mood for a horror movie to enjoy it, and my daughter gets really creeped out by them in general.
I am waiting for all of the Orphan support groups to come out about this one. Just from the TV ads (which is all I've seen), it seems to be suggesting that orphans (who by definition probably had a bad time of it in life) are scary weird psycho killers.
As I said and anon confirms- the film is based on an orphan stigma- i.e. that they are to blame (evilly) for their condition. Not that I won't accept that as the premise of a story- it just seems so mean and craven that it would rile up the whole child-advocate crowd (of course maybe they , rightly see this film like LAGuy does as an insignificant failure soon to disappear- if its surprisingly popular- we might see protests)
How about a film about an evil crippled kid who got that way through vandalizing factories ( i think there might be story like that in this week's Chinese-owned Onion)

Ah, but what made her an orphan, that's the question.

Actually, groups have already protested Orphan.
Sources, anon, sources! Where do you think you're commenting, Free Republic?
p.s. my verification is "nontion." Suggested definition: an idea that you immediately realize is stupid upon verbalizing it.
