Frederic Raphael is known as a screenwriter with a tart tongue. Fine with me--screenwriters should speak out more often.
In the latest Commentary, he issues his proclamation on Inglourious Basterds, essentially calling it a pretentious crapfest. I found this funny, because that's what I'd call most of the stuff Raphael has worked on.

"Pretentious Crapfest" is a movie I would pay to see
From the link, I only recognized "Eyes Wide Shut" (OK-pretentious crap but with nude girls in headdresses) and 1967's Far From The Madding Crowd which I recently bought on DVD but haven't seen yet but thinking the source material pretty strong. What other crapfests are you referring to- his opinion writing?
He meant "Pretientious Crepfest".
This was probably a test...
...but you mispelled "inglourious".
I fixed the spelling before I read your comment, but that's not much consolation.
The films that made Raphael's reputation are Darling and Two For The Road. His Oscar for the first is inexplicable, and maybe some day I'll go into my particular loathing of the latter (which at least as a movie doesn't have the annoying editorial comments found in Raphael's script).
