Red Hot And Blue
A drummer friend recently sent me a video of Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Pepper's playing the National Anthem at Auburn Hills.
Most people I've talked to think this is stupid, but I kind of like it.

They had the National Anthem playing in the background. That's cheating. I wanted to hear a percussion only version.
Ditto.
I really liked it. The first half was okay, but the second half (from "and the rockets" to the end) was excellent. Of course, it wouldn't work without the orchestra, but even so he was combining what would have been the vocal line and what would have been a normal percussion accompaniment, so he was still doing two-thirds of the work....
At some point, Congress legally deleted the third verse of the SSB, because it offended our English brethren by referring to them as "hirelings and slaves" and gloating that "their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution". Still, it's not as bloody as the Marseilles.
In junior high, after a particularly long teacher-written musical (it was based on the TV broadcasting day) involving well over 200 14 and15 year old actors dancers and singers, our school nearly sparked a parental revolt by closing the show with the chorus belting out all four verses of the national anthem. Non one was I think objecting to the "foul footsteps' pollution" I think it was because the audience had to stand up for 10 minutes after enduring 3+ hours of other peoples' kids' talent. Even in those bicentennial times, I've never seen adults so angry. NEG
