Jerry, Barry, Larry and Don

Years ago Jerry Seinfeld wrote the introduction to Letters From A Nut by Ted L. Nancy--a book of bizarre letters written to celebrities and companies, along with their replies.  It was a hit and spawned a series of books.  Seinfeld claimed not to know Nancy, but everyone (that I knew, anyway) understood it was a buddy of his.  Recently, on Larry King, he revealed it was Barry Marder, a comedian and old colleague.

Fine, but all three on the show treated the books as if they were an original concept.  Perhaps Marder came up with the idea independently, but back in the 70s Don Novello published The Lazlo Letters, where, as "Lazlo Toth," he did the exact same thing.  In fact, he published three such Lazlo books.  (Novello is probably best known for another identity--Father Guido Sarducci.)

I liked the Lazlo books, but haven't read the Nancy books.  Perhaps they're fun, too, but would an acknowledgement be too much to ask?

The Lazlo Letters (especially the first two books) are truly hilarious. The funniest (semi-)political books I have ever read.
