Happy Birthday, Patti Smith. Raised in New Jersey, she moved to New York and became a poet/ rock star, then moved to Detroit where her husband, Fred "Sonic" Smith (no relation) of the MC5, was from.



Must be great to have someone write a song like that for you.

The first time I met her was at a record signing at a Harmony House. I still remember what she said to me: "You've got to take off the wrapping before I sign it."

I also remember the first time I heard "Dancing Barefoot." I thought it might be the best song ever.
