J & C

When Conan O'Brien had the Letterman slot at NBC, he put on a fine show.  Weird, edgy, often imaginative.  He carved out his own niche, which is why I was disappointed when he took over The Tonight Show.  He seemed to have rounded off those edges.  I thought he might regain that quirkiness with his TBS show, but so far it's a lot closer to the 11:30 Conan.  Maybe he's lost it, or maybe he's still trying to appeal to a wider audience, now that he's on earlier. I'm glad he's on, but he still hasn't approached the best of his past.

On the other hand, the show I thought would be awful is okay.  Not great, but passable.  That's Jimmy Fallon.  The show has had some decent gags, and Fallon does some nice impressions, often involving singing.  He's still weak at interviewing, but the show is willing to go all out for some bits, and they occasionally hit.
