Beautiful Gore

Could it be?  Teen star Lesley Gore turns 65 today.

She got her biggest hit right off the bat with "It's My Party," #1 in 1963. (It was also the first hit for producer Quincy Jones.)

She got her revenge with "Judy's Turn To Cry," a follow-up song that went to #5 the same year.  (Johnny dumped Judy and returned to Lesley.  Some suggest a better revenge song would be Lesley kicking Judy's ass for stealing her man, and then dumping Johnny for being such a jerk)

In 1964 she had her second-biggest hit, the proto-feminist "You Don't Own Me," which went to #2.

It was to be her last top ten hit, as the Beatles and a whole new sort of music started to dominate the charts.  Still, she'd occasionally hit the top 20, such as this song written by another teen, Marvin Hamlisch.

A YouTube comment:

If I found a magic lamp and a genie popped out and said that I had three wishes, being on that bus would be wish #1.
