Was (Not Was)
Attention must be paid to Robert Kaplan's profile of John Mearsheimer, James Fallows informs us. Fallows quotes from Kaplan:
[Mearsheimer and Walt argue that] the reason the Israelis are not more cooperative is that in the final analysis, they don't have to be--which, in turn, is because of the pro-Israel lobby.... I see nothing wrong or illegitimate about this core argument. And no amount of nitpicking by their critics of The Israel Lobby's 100 pages of endnotes can detract from it. I say this as someone who is a veteran of the Israel Defense Forces and who supported the Iraq War (a position I have come to deeply regret).
Interesting last sentence. Wouldn't a more correct way of putting it be "I say this as someone who deeply regrets supporting the Iraq War, and thus the sort of person more likely to support Mearsheimer and Walt--in fact, I might be on their side so strongly that I would miss what they're really saying and, for that matter, just not get those who oppose them"?

If this is how he feels then he's missing a bigger point. The reason the Palestinians feel they can commit war crimes, be openly racist and call for the destruction of Israel is because they don't have to reform, since the rest of the world supports them no matter what.
All interesting, I'm sure, but you had me (or rather lost me) at "James Fallows . . ."
It's also interesting to have someone who at this point deeply regrets the Iraq War. Isn't this one of Obama's greatest accomplishments by this point? It'll be awhile before we lose it, as we lost Egypt and are about to kick losing Iran into overdrive.
"...feel they can commit war crimes, be openly racist and call for the destruction of Israel is because they don't have to reform..."
Not clear which side you talkinmg about
Is anonymous #4 making the tiresome claim of moral equivalence between Israeli, which shows amazing forbearance for a country surrounded by those who wish to commit genocide against it, and the Palestinians, who proudly wish to commit genocide and have never given in even the slightest? If so, how predictable.
I'm not sure, however, since #4's shot is not expressed clearly. Which is why I expect it's the same point we keep hearing--the people who believe it aren't thinking straight.
