A1ANA2
It's Lawrence Welk's birthday. The bandleader's show ran forever, covering tunes professionally if without much feeling. I think even Welk found it corny, but what the heck, he brought entertainment to millions.
In later years, the show tried to modernize, with fascinating results.
Many mocked Welk, none better than Stan Freberg.
Then there was the time they covered the Velvet Underground.

My God, that was fantastic. They did a great job.
I don't get the voice, though. Did they run a track or was someone there doing it, and if so why wasn't he shown?
An now please-a listen to the homely Polish sisters as they-a murder this-a lovely song.

I think Percy Faith's "Ballad Of John And Yoko" is even more amazing.
Anon 1: I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Anon 1 here. I was referring to Velvet Underground clip. You see the band playing. You see people dancing (including Welk). You hear the music.
You also hear a voice that's not a bad Lou Reed or whoever.
Usually Welk's cameras spent plenty of time showing you the singers.
Here, no singers. So, did they run a track, or was someone there doing it?
Okay, I get it now. Just to make it absolutely clear to everyone, someone took a clip of the Lawrence Welk Show and matched it up with a recording of the Velvet Underground playing "Sister Ray."
Poop. I was hoping we had the Avett Brothers grandparents.
