Skunkworks
Happy birthday, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. A guitarist best known as a sideman for Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers, he's had a second career as a defense consultant for missile defense systems.
Pardon me if I emphasize his work for the Dan.

Don't forget the "Boston Rag".

I still remember the first time I heard Countdown To Ecstasy down in a friend's basement. It's my second-favorite Steely Dan album. It might be higher if it had a few more songs.
I remember going into a record store (I can't remember if it was a Tower or Wherehouse) and having the guy behind the counter look at me - a tall, pimply teen - like one of those assholes from "High Fidelity", certain that I had no musical taste at all, just waiting to mock whatever I might purchase.
A little while later, when I came up to the counter with copies of Countdown to Ecstasy and Graham Nash's Songs for Beginners, he looked at me like I was a different person.
Respectful, even.
I'll never forget that look.
