Nixon's The One

Happy birthday, Marni Nixon. Few know her face, but her voice is a different matter.  She's probably the best known dubber of singing voices in film history.

Jeremy Irons (Freddy in My Fair Lady - I know I was surprised too!) provides a commentary track on the DVD. In it he notes with some minor petulance that Audrey Hepburn recorded all the tracks that were eventually dubbed, and that she sounded quite good.

He notes with I believe faux outrage that he too had recorded his big number ("On the Street Where You Live"), but the makers decided to dub him as well. At least he got to sing as Scar in the Lion King.

Audrey Hepburn had already sung on screen with Fred Astaire in Funny Lady. She can sing better than Rex Harrison, who wasn't dubbed, but nobody expected him to sing his songs, exactly.
