What's your problem? This strikes me as a proper use of the word "literally" in it's preferred sense. They may be wrong politically, but not grammatically.
Though CG is no doubt guilty of many sins and worse ideas, I do not think he is a grammar Nazi.
Now that's an evidence-based opinion if ever I've heard one. Now 'scuse me whilst I go kill a few people. Literally.
