Either there'll be a majority of delegates on the first ballot or not. If there is (and I think there will be), no need for speculation. If not, some arcane rules might come into play, but mostly everything will be possible, and it'll simply depend on how open people are to deals. In fact, it's pretty common in open conventions for the leader not to win. We're just not used to it. Have things changed so much since those days that we can't imagine it?

Cleveland sure picked a sucky year to get a convention. Veiled threats of blood in the streets. Should be good TV though
