Boy, Sony
On my way home I saw a huge line on La Brea, a few blocks from where I live. Borat? Bond? No, Best Buy. They were waiting for the release of PlayStation 3 at midnight.
The game machine costs 600 smackers, yet the run will sell out easily. I'm sure this tells us something about our culture, but all I can say is well done, Sony.

There's an enjoyable novel from a couple years ago called "Jennifer Government" which is an over-the-top story about consumer capitalism gone wild. People's last names are now the name of their employer (Jennifer is a policewoman). In the opening chapters, it describes a marketing plan devised by two marketing honchos, both named John Nike, to market $2500 sneakers and their strategy is release them at midnight, severely restrict the supply to create crowds and lines and furthermore sub-contract for some gang violence and murders at the sales to enhance the street cred and hence publicity & demand for the product (by suburban gangsters wannabes). I just saw a huge brawl on the news this morning for one of these playstation 3 lines.
Ahh the triumph of marketing.
So they spend millions to try to get us to buy their product. Compare this to government, where they pass laws (including ones forcing us to pay for them) and if we don't comply they throw us in jail or shoot us.
What are the gangsters' names?
Billy Bob NRA was the only one mentioned
Hey, that's my name.
