Thank goodness for gun free zones
I'ts a beautiful spring day here in Columbus. I imagine it's the same in Virginia, and everywhere where there are gun control laws and gun free zones, which prevent terrible things from happening.
QueensGuy replies: We have no useful facts yet but, as a general matter, (Concealed-carry-permits-on-demand + no-background-check-gun-show-purchases) > (gun-free-school-zones), as state law trumps go.
You know what? It feels rather tasteless to even have this conversation now. My deep condolences to the victims and their families and loved ones. Fin.

This is very sad but its in the news.
Its nice to know the commander-in-chief's first reaction was a ringing endorsement of the 2d Amendment. Never miss a chance to energize to the base.
Is that what provoked ColumbusGuy into turning this into a gun control story? I'll have to go find that clip, because I'm curious to see how that could be done in an even marginally-sensitive way.
This was the quote from PR flak Perino picked up in most of wires yesterday (though it seems to have disappeared today)
The president believes that there is a right for people to bear arms, but that all laws must be followed. Certainly, bringing a gun into a school dormitory and shooting ... is against the law and something someone should be held accountable for," Perino said.

In some ways more offensive than "nappy headed ho"
Within minutes of the shootings, the anti-gun groups were out in force, drawing the lessons they always draw (sort of like ColumbusGy, actually). Bush, on the other hand, made a speech about the grief of the moment. His people had to deal with the gun aspect because everyone was talking about it, not because they figured here's a chance to exploit a moment.
So the largest mass murder on American soil since 9/11 and within hours, the President's people have to.......get out in front of the antigun lobby.
Anonymous will have predicted this, but I'm touched by New England Guy's great sensitivity to Perino's response, and his even greater sensitivity to the questions she was being asked.
SWMBCg, etc.
Sensitivity?- How about recognition of borishness and an a politicial tin ear. I don't think these guys are going to plum jobs in Public relations in 09
boorishness- sheesh I can't type
