The Dog That Hasn't Yet Barked

The arrest of Aafia Siddique suggests Al Qaeda is still out there and planning more attacks. So the question becomes why haven't they been able to hit us hard on our own soil since 9/11?

I doubt it's because they're waiting for the right moment. If they could, they would have hit us already. (They don't like America in general, and the idea they'd give George Bush a pass is silly.)

So it's probably they were either not much of a threat in the first place, or one we've been successfully holding down and taking apart.

I believe that Al Quaeda attacks worldwide have been more numerous and deadly worldwide since 9/11 than before. As to attacks on our soil or directly on our interests abroad, those have had several years between them before -- the first World Trade Center attack, the African embassies, the attack on the Cole, etc. I doubt they are "waiting" for the right time or giving George Bush a pass. But they are difficult to plan and Al Quaeda seems to have a preference for spectacular attacks that take some time to plan and accomplish.

True, the success of Al Qaeda on 9/11 spurred on more attacks, but we know for a fact (as you can see from the linked article) that they have wanted to attack us again. Sure, some of it is luck--the millienium bomber could have succeeded in 2000 (which shows they don't just plan things in America every ten years or more). They would also like nothing more than the attack their number one enemy Bush on his home soil. That they haven't should mean something.
