That's Rich

Frank Rich has contracted PDS (which puts him in good company on The New York Times editorial page). This is from his latest piece:

John McCain is too weak to serve as America’s chief executive. [....] A McCain victory on Election Day will usher in a Palin presidency, with McCain serving as a transitional front man, an even weaker Bush to her Cheney.

Let's leave aside the silly claim that Cheney runs Bush, since I understand this is taken as a matter of faith for Rich and his crowd. What evidence does he have that Palin will tell McCain what to do? I thought the line on McCain was he's a stubborn fool who won't be moved. Now that Palin is scaring Democrats, I guess the new concept is he's a feeble old man, easily pushed around.

The only question left for Rich is which Republican template does Palin fall into--evil or stupid. So far, he's going for both, but that's hard to pull off.

Actually, I think stupidity is often evil.

Evil, especially the deep evil Frank Rich attributes to Palin and her followers, requires a certain amount of calculation, and couldn't easily be pulled off by someone stupid.
