My Regards
I must be misreading this, but Mayor Bloomberg seems to be saying he's going to ease traffic in New York by turning two of its busiest intersections into pedestrian plazas. This is another reason why I try to avoid driving in NYC.

The argument in favor of it is that those two spots are where Broadway merges with other avenues, so if cars are all just going the same way down the same avenue, you won't get the bottleneck. I'm mildly skeptical, but it's worth a shot.
It's simple math. Same amount of cars, less place to drive. Can't work.
Like I said, I'm skeptical, but if it works it wouldn't be the first counter-intuitive idea you or I later discovered to be true, anon.
Look at traffic in DC when post 9/11 they shut down traffic in front of the White House.
