Mad Dog And Glory
The most interesting thing about the debut of Jimmy Fallon's late night show was his first guest ever--Robert De Niro. A big name, to be sure, but is there a worse talk show guest? He's soft spoken and unresponsive. Letterman's first interview was Bill Murray. Now that's a guest.

I think it was a Slate writer who suggested that maybe De Niro appeared because he owed Lorne Michaels a favor. If that's true, De Niro must have an unusual way of defining "favor."
fallon- too early to judge, but if you made me judge now. Won't last a season.

Why is that judgments on late night talk shows are close to instantaneous? Dating myself- Joan Rivers and Chevy Chase disappeared in a blink of an eye in the early 90s but Arsenio was anointed a success (for a short period at least) pretty quickly. (On the other hand, Alan Thicke lasted well longer than he had any right to)
Didn't see but from the chatter, believe AA Guy has right on Jimmy Failin
It'll take a lot to replace Fallon. They've spent a lot of time and money on him, so they won't give up easily. Also, don't forget, NBC owns late night. If Conan keeps up Jay's ratings, the 12:30 slot will do okay as well. If Conan doesn't, they've got bigger problems than who follows him.
