Picky
Here's Time Magazine's "Top 10 Oscar-Nomination Snubs" compiled by Richard Corliss. It's numbered, though I don't think it's meant to be in any particular order.
1. Fred Astaire in Top Hat (1935)
2. Cary Grant in His Girl Friday (1940)
3. Bill Murray in Groundhog Day (1993)
4. Barbara Stanwyck in The Lady Eve (1941)
5. John Ford for The Searchers (1956)
6. Martin Scorsese for Taxi Driver (1976)
7. Steven Spielberg for Jaws (1975)
8. King Kong (1933)
9. Some Like It Hot (1959)
10. The Dark Knight (2008)
Overall, not a bad list. There are certainly quite a few other choices I'd make, but that was inevitable. Most of these picks are worthy. Though #3, #6 and #10 aren't high on my list. And #5 would be a mistake.

I agree that #3 and #6 didn't deserve noms, but why would #5 be a mistake? And I thought #10 absolutely deserved a nom - yes, it was a "comic book" movie but it was extremely well done and it kept me thinking about it for a long time after I left the theater, something few movies do these days.
Also, I would add Clint Eastwood for Best Actor in Gran Torino to my list.
When it comes to Oscars, John Ford is the most over-awarded director of all. The last thing we need is to give him another nomination, especially for his most overrated film.
