Out With A Bang

CBS has decided to break up a winning combination and move TV's most successful sitcom (best demos), The Big Bang Theory, from Monday to Thursday.

I suppose Big Bang is big enough to handle the movie, but there may be leakage along the way. Worse, it'll now be going up against the NBC comedy lineup. In particular, my favorite new show, Community. This stinks. Whoever is hurt (and it'll probably be the latter), it's not a good thing. Why couldn't they move Two And A Half Men instead?

PS Now that Bang will be in the same time slot Friends once occupied, here's a short piece explaining how the two shows are similar. Absurd.

Well with hulu will it matter? Did they not want it up against MNF? Seems like a different demo

I hear they'll soon be charging for Hulu, so it will make a difference.

The Big Bang Theory is CBS's hottest show, and still in the ascendent. It's always tricky to move your hot show (for example, Miami Vice was NBC's hot new show it and was never the same after they put it up against Dallas. Mork and Mindy was ABC's hot new show but after a few shifts it was never the same hit).

This is a bold move by CBS. No one cares about MNF--the CBS Monday night comedy lineup is one of its strongest assets. But they want to esablish a comedy beachhead on what has been THE night for comedy for over 20 years--but only for NBC.

Big Bang won me over with the visiting nympho professor episode. On any other sitcom, the show's regular hottie would have bonded with her and taught her to be feminine, blah blah blah. This was a refreshing and unexpected change of pace. "So, I hear you can't pay your rent...."

I'll certainly follow Big Bang to Thurs. Since I don't watch Community, that won't be an issue. But my DVR can only record one show at a time, so now I will probably cut off the first minute of 30 Rock or Office (which ever follows Community), because NBC consistently starts their shows about 30 seconds before the top or bottom of the hour. Am I right that they are purposely making it difficult to record whole shows, to encourage people to watch things live?

Usually when shows run over normal time slots it's to encourage spillage over into the next show.
