They Never Give Up

Here's an essay from the Cato Institute about how Darwin supports libertarianism. I like the Cato Institute, I like Darwin, but I don't see what the two have to do with each other. From the start, people on the right and left have tried to draft Darwin for their programs...or, if they oppose him, tried to claim he's on the other side. Darwin was a scientist, not a political philosopher. His research helped lead the way in biology. Even if it ends up giving us insight into human nature, it's almost certainly too big a leap to say it tells us how to vote.

In vaguely related stuff, here's a great page of predictions about the imminent demise of the theory of evolution, from the 1800s to today. I've argued in the past that no one is impressed by the argument "you'll be considered wrong in the future," but it's even worse when you have a long history of making this prediction.
