Waterlogged

One thing about old Hollywood--if you had talent, they'd try to showcase it. All sorts of specialty acts had their moment in the spotlight. Some, beyond just doing their routine, became movie stars.

For instance, who would have thought anyone could parlay Olympic figure skating into screen stardom, but that's what Sonja Henie did in the 30s and 40s. (It's interesting watching her routines today, since they've long been surpassed by moder skaters.)

Esther Williams was a top competitive swimmer, and I still find it interesting that this Million Dollar Mermaid had a major film career built around her aquatic talents. You think there'd be a limit to how much water-based choreography people could take, but they kept coming back.

Anyway, happy birthday, Esther.
