Tom Laughlin turns 80 today. He was a minor actor who'd quit Hollywood only to return in an independent film that because a huge hit in the early 1970s.
He made a number of films featuring his iconic Billy Jack character. He also got involved in a number of political causes. Some consider him a crank who blamed conspiracies when his films failed, but, love him or hate him, he did it his way.

Has to be one of the best wikipedia entries ever. I suppose the title of his latest project is The Death of Billy Jack.
