Stuck In The Middle

President Obama is fighting for Richard Cordray to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, but the Republicans are holding fast, threatening a filibuster.  I don't really have much to say about this, it's just interesting seeing a guy I know (though not too well) from U of C law school at the center of a national controversy.

Not that he's all that controversial.  In fact, Elizabeth Warren was the potentially explosive choice, and Cordray a relatively safe one.  But the Republican complaint isn't about the person, it's about structural changes to the agency, which they believe has too much unaccountable power. So Rich gets to wait and wait and probably not get the job.  And this after being voted out of office as Ohio's Attorney General.   Back when he was clerking on the Supreme Court and winning on Jeopardy! was this the future he saw for himself?

I think it's pretty clear that is what envisioned. Whatever his politics, he's a good envisioner.
