Lou Alone
Yesterday's tribute to Lou Reed was all about the work he did with the Velvets, but let's not forget he was the only one in the group who had a successful solo career. That includes his surprise hit single in 1973:
Then there's a song of his that was popularized years later on the Trainspotting soundtrack, and became a monster hit in Britain:

WOTHWS Inspired me to read the eponymous Nelson Algren novel. (I guess Lou was originally talking about doing a musical about it and when that flopped, he took the tile and wrote about NY)
Although completely different the novel and the song seem to really fit each other
What's funny about the song is it describes real people from the Warhol world but to most of the people who enjoyed it as a novelty number it was essentially gibberish.
