Final Stage

Let's say goodbye to the venerable Stage Deli in New York, which closed on Thursday.

Located on Seventh Avenue, it opened 75 years ago and has served countless customers, includng more than its share of celebrities.  It's yet another landmark in the Big Apple closing down because it can't cover the rent.

I recall going there many years ago. (Or was it its nemesis, the Carnegie?)  Sorry, I don't remember what name I ordered.  It wasn't cheap, but then, in New York, what is?  And they gave you enough in their sandwiches for two meals.

There are still plenty of delicatessens in New York, but it feels a little more lonesome with the Stage gone.
