Really, Really Bad

Movie 43 is the worst-reviewed film out there right now. Richard Roeper, no one's favorite critic, gives it no stars:

As the ads for "Movie 43" promised (threatened?), you can't un-see this thing, so please: Stay away. Even if you might think that sitting through "Movie 43" would be an adventure along the lines of experiencing "Showgirls" or "Howard the Duck," you'll be filled with regret five minutes into this atrocity. There's camp-fun bad and interestingly horrible bad, and then there's just awful.

This is dumb. I don't recommend Movie 43, but at least they were going for something different.  They may have failed, but I was never bored. And looking back on it, there are even moments that were fun.

This is more than I can say for Oscar-nominated hits such as The Hobbit or Les Miserables. And it's certainly more than I can say for quite a few middling films I've seen over the years that are now happily forgotten. I think Movie 43 may go on to become a cult item, like another alleged disaster Roeper mentions, Freddie Got Fingered.

Roeper is engaging in mindless hyperbole. Okay, the film is repulsive and not that funny.  So just note it and move on.  There are far worse movies opening on a regular basis, films that do nothing you haven't already seen before, but do it worse.

Speaking of which, Roeper's sort of like that as a critic.  It's possible people will still be watching Movie 43 in the future.  I can't imagine they'll still be reading his reviews.
