Land Of The Lost Numbers

In a continuing series at the AV Club on character actors, Kyle Ryan interviews Katherine Hahn about roles she's played.  He notes she has a "scene-stealing cameo in Anchorman." More like a "blink and you'll miss it" part.

But I'm more interested at this back-and-forth at the end of the piece:

AVC: [Step Brothers] didn’t do so well when it came out, but it’s sort of taken on another life.

KH: Same with Anchorman, right?

Didn't do so well?  Will Ferrell has had his ups and downs, but I think it's fair to categorize these two titles as hits.

True, Anchorman only made about half of what Elf  (Ferrell's biggest leading-man hit, made the year before) had done, but that still meant a gross of $85 million domestic for a relatively low-budget R-rated comedy.  And Step Brothers, also R-rated, made $100 million domestic.  Their reputations may have grown after the initial runs, but these are not flops.
