Biology wars and timelines

These two ought to compare calendars:

I feel safe predicting that polygamy will not be legally recognized, with fanfare and trumpets, in 2025. But it might be recognized in 2040, with a shrug.

Humans will be cyborgs within 200 years, expert predicts

Obviously, groups living together in mutually acceptable, intimate relationships is not against the law (Freedom of Association). So the only thing missing from a fully polymorous society is some sort of legal licensing that would embue the members of such groups with mutual legal rights to visitation, property and parenting of children. I'd say its closer to 2025 than 2040. And why not?

"Obviously, groups living together in mutually acceptable, intimate relationships is not against the law." That has not been the case for polygamists who observe the legal niceties (i.e. not actually being married to more than one at a time)

Yes, bigamy is still against the law. But unless someone tries to get two marriage licenses, they are in no danger. Heck, Sister Wives is a popular TV show! When authorities go after polygamists, it's because they try to marry underage girls, or are forcing women to stay in the relationship.
