Aftermath
Here it is, a Friday the day after July 4th. I wonder what percentage of Americans with 9 to 5 jobs have today off? For that matter, what's the day of the week most people would prefer a federal holiday fall? Not that there's much choice. Here's the Big Ten--a list of such holidays:
New Year's Day
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Washington's Birthday (aka Presidents Day)
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day (some want to change this to Indigenous Peoples Day)
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
Five of them are floating Mondays. Thanksgiving is a floating Thursday. New Year's Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day and Christmas are on fixed dates. So it's these last four. When is the best day of the week for them?
I can't imagine anyone wants them to fall on Saturday or Sunday--people already have those days off. Mondays and Fridays aren't bad, since that gives you a three-day weekend, like other federal holidays.
But I'm guessing people like Tuesday or Thursday best--a lot of people can then take off Monday or Friday without feeling much guilt.
On the other hand, a holiday on Wednesday feels weird. Too isolated.

Hoping the earthquakes are not a problem for you LA guy!
No. It's like we've got enhanced fireworks.
