On Notice
Like millions of Americans, I just received a notice from the IRS in my mailbox informing me I might be getting some money under the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008.
You know, I think I'd prefer not getting the money if I could avoid receiving notices from the IRS in my mailbox.

The U.S. EPA used to send out 106 and 104 orders in celophane-window envelopes with their address printed on them. The orders were serious business, $25,000 a day per violation fines, abate this problem now, we'll discuss it later kind of stuff. You got them, you acted.
They used the same envelope to bill you whenever you requested a copy of a document, even just a page or two. You could get bills for a quarter.
Whenever I received one of these bills, I was always sure to leave the envelope placed haphazardly on the desk of an attorney I particularly enjoyed.
