Ed's Head
I was flipping though the channels and caught the scene in 25th Hour where Ed Norton asks to be beaten up so he won't be so pretty in prison. Then I thought about some of his other high profile roles. Both Rounders and Fight Club feature scenes where his face gets bashed in pretty bad.
Is there something about being disfigured that attracts Norton?

I think he gets beat up in his new film, too.
Don't forget the Hulk where the military and others beat the crap out of Dr. Banner.
If you count how he roided himself up for American History X as disfigurement, I think you are clearly onto something.
The most amusing point about this discussion is that he is not that pretty, which fits perfectly with his unbearable arrogance.
Joe Queenan wrote a great article in the old Movieline about how handsome actors feel the need to be tortured on screen, and my favorite example he used was Jeff Bridges having to kiss Barbra Streisand in "The Mirror Has Two Faces."
