Opie Makes Good
Pretty good documentary on TCM about Ron Howard. He certainly has become one of the most successful and respected directors in town. He's an old-school Hollywood director, like Capra or Wyler, who believes in big stars and big themes. But I have to admit I liked his work best in the 80s, when he made smaller films, generally comedies. He had a nice touch, and I prefer Night Shift, Splash, Cocoon and Parenthood over (and I'm choosing his big ones) Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man and Frost/Nixon. The latter set may have won him more awards and made him more money, but to me the real test is which DVDs would I rather own.
