Blossom Dearie

Noted jazz singer Blossom Dearie has died. Her simple, almost childlike voice kept the words and tune up front, where they should be.

One of my favorites was her reading of "I Won't Dance." (I think I understand the French, but can anyone translate it?)

I have a good friend who loves her version of, of all things, "I'm Hip."

A very special episode of Blossom. Very good indeed.

You know, as much as I malign NPR, I have to admit it was NPR that introduced me to Blossom Dearie (and another of my favorites, Webb Pierce). It was a profile that aired many years ago. "I'm Hip" was featured and I have loved it ever since.

Are you maligning their politics or their (presumably) non-political taste?
