Funny is as Funny does

I must be getting old or working too hard, I am actually finding the Onion's take on a bad humor columnist pretty funny in a non-ironic sort of way. I used the accountant line twice today (Maybe I've been spending too much time with accountants....)

(Of course this reminds me of a pre-lesbian episode of Ellen which was featuring "bad" comics at the bookstore which featured a"bad" joke which became one of my favorites- Q:How does a Buddhist order a hot dog? A: Make me one with everything.)

There's a second, less funny half of that joke. The hot dog vendor says "that'll be $2. The Buddhist gives him a $10 bill which the vendor pockets and then turns away. The Buddhist asks for his change and the vendor replies "change must come from within."

Query -If a writer tries to make you laugh by creating a deliberately unfunny character trying to be funny but makes you laugh because you find the unfunny character funny, has the writer succeeded?

Is that the sound of one hand clapping.....?

The hot dog joke isn't a bad joke, ti's a good one.

I always like the hack comic columns in The Onion. The best bit in this piece is where he tells you to look up kamikaze.
