Shroud Crowd Cloud

As readers of this blog may know, I don't think much of supernatural claims about the Shroud Of Turin.

Now, the latest claim by believers, attempting to fill a hole in the alleged history of the artifact, has the Knights Templar holding it during the "missing" years. It's certainly possible they had a shroud that they venerated. There were lots of shrouds making the rounds. It might even be the shroud that ended up in Turin.

The problem with the history of the Shroud is not what was it doing immediately before it made its big apperance in the mid-14th century. It's the first 1200 years or so that needs to be accounted for, and right now all they've really got is centuries of legend, guesswork and wishful thinking.
