Stop Looking At The Camera

The pilot to Parks And Recreation, starring Amy Poehler, was mildly amusing. Perhaps it'll develop into something, but I really don't get them using the documentary style of The Office.

The premise of The Office--that there's some sort of documentary being shot in a workplace--barely works as it is. It doesn't really make sense if you think about it. But to have a show that just happens to be about another workplace where they're shooting a documentary (as well as going inside people's houses who aren't working at this place) seems absurd.

The documentary format worked better in the English version because of its limited scope. Two seasons of six episodes, and then it ends showing what the effect of the documentary was on the characters after it aired. I love the American Office, but the documentary aspect is distracting. Every time I see them doing an interview, I ask myself, how long can these camera people and directors stay in this office without producing anything?

True the documentary format makes no sense but then again most of the basic plots make no sense either- its a comedy based upon a reality feel of ridiculous behavior.

Removing the docmentary affectation from the Office now would change the look and feel of the show too much. Not something they mess with at this point.

Parks & Rec appears just to be following the formula (Leslie Knope = Michael Scott)- I enjoyed the first show but if its too much a copy, it will get tedious quickly
