Summer Replacement

I caught the season-ender of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. For scheduling reasons I didn't catch most of season 2, but I enjoyed what I saw So I'm sorry the show won't be returning--I assume, based on its dismal ratings.

On the other hand, if Fringe or Dollhouse have to go, no big deal. Never got into either.

Dollhouse is now quite good.

The first five shows had essentially the same plot (I once heard that some networks require this on the grounds that "Surveys show that the average viewer sees only one out of the first five episodes of a new show"), and I was only impressed with one of them. But now the hunt for the Dollhouse and the war of agents has escalated.

I started watching Sarah Connor only in the past couple months (because it was on before Dollhouse, so I figured I'd watch it). It was okay. I'm surprised you say it's cancelled, since it ended with a cliffhanger. Still,t the best part of the show was Summer Glau's ability to play eccentric characters, and I liked her character more in Firefly.

(LAGuy, you've never chimed in when Firefly was discussed on this blog... did you ever watch it? Do you avoid all Joss Whedon projects on principle, perhaps?)

I thought the best things about the show were the women, Summer Glau and Lena Headey. Since I missed most of the second season, I can't say much more. If it had been scheduled at a more convenient time I might have checked it out regularly.

I never watched a single episode of Firefly or Buffy (though I did see the pre-Buffy and post-Firefly movie). I have nothing against Joss Whedon in principle, that's just the way it worked out.

In fact, I've often wondered how I (or anyone) decide which shows to watch. I'll check out most sitcoms, since that's the world I'm in, but how has it happened that now I watch mostly hourlong dramas? I suppose sometimes I'll stumble across something, or more likely hear some promotion about it, but, in general, if a show sounds interesting, or someone recommends it, I'll take the time to watch an episode. But usually only one. I'm sure TV producers realize how important consistency is, especially in the first season, since viewers have a lot of choices these days and are fickle. It used to be networks would commit to a full season of a show, and later 13 full episodes, now if you don't score quickly, you can be off the air immediately.

Do you think both Mentalist and Lie to Me can survive. I think Mentalist has gotten pretty good ratings, even though in some ways it is a take off of Psych (Psych given a much more serious treatment).

Personally, I have watched a few Lie to Me episodes, and I think Mentalist is much better, primarily because the characters are much more likeable and sympathetic. The Lie to Me cast comes across as a bunch of annoying know-it-alls (but then see the success of House).

I haven't seen either show.

The Mentalist is the huge new hit of the season, so no need to fear for it.

Lie To Me was given the best slot on TV, so Fox had high hopes for it. It's numbers were good but have been dropping every week, so I don't know what they think.

So LAGuy, don't you watch anything on the web? TSCC is POD.

I catch episodes of stuff I miss occasionally, but I watch too much TV as it is.
