That's Where They Lost Me

In Adventureland, a rather quiet coming of age comedy set in an amusement park one summer in Pittsburgh, 1987, the lead character goes to a jukebox in a bar and picks "Pale Blue Eyes" by the Velvet Underground.

I am sorry, but no jukebox I'm aware of, especially one in 1987 Pittsburgh, has that selection.

The original story was I think set in greater NY-NJ area (maybe it was Long Island?) and is semi-autobiographical. They had to film it at world-famous Kennywood Park (where I spent many school picnic days in the 60s and 70s) because it was one of the few amusement parks that still looks like 1987.
I actually visited the park last August and would agree. (it could probably pass for 1977)

The original BillyMark's bar, in Flushing Queens, might have had that song on the jukebox in '87. But not many others.

Conflict disclosure/shameless plug: I occasionally bartend at the spiritual successor, BillyMark's West, in Manhattan. My uncles Billy and Mark (duh) are the owners.

Jukeboxes back in those days had vinyl singles. There was no vinyl single of "Pale Blue Eyes."

I realize the filmmaker wasn't trying to be perfectly realistic, but it still took me out of the movie.

In the old days you could judge a bar by what was on the jukebox.
