Deer Hunter, Meet Kevin Johnson

The Lost fourth-season episode "Meet Kevin Johnson" had the startling and not entirely welcome revelation that the Island seemed to trump certain characters' free will.

Michael, back on the mainland and depressed, tries to commit suicide. He holds a loaded gun to his head, but it jams. As Mr. Friendly explains, he's still got work to do, so no matter what he tries, he won't succeed in killing himself.

Up to this point, viewers figured characters could decide their own fate. But there is one thing. Michael could sure make a killing at competitive Russian Roulette.
