Have No Fear, Sargon Is Here

I recently watched the remastered Star Trek episode "Return To Tomorrow." A decent enough second-season story, I don't have too much to say about it. The main thing I noticed this time around is Sargon is really a deus ex machina. Kirk is dead and Henoch has taken over, but actually Sargon has extra powers so everything's okay.

The main reason I'm writing about it is, like the last episode I saw, "Is There In Truth No Beauty?," it features Diana Muldaur playing a doctor. So how come, as many fans have been asking for years, when Dr. Miranda Jones came aboard in season three, no one said "hey, Dr. Ann Mulhall, why'd you change your name after you left the ship?" We also once more witness Spock on the bridge taken over by another mind as Diana Muldaur watches.

Another moment of interest is when Sargon claims his people may have seeded other planets. Dr. Mulhall assures him research has shown humans developed independently on Earth, but Spock thinks maybe this has something to do with the Vulcan past. The whole humanoids across the galaxy is a sticky issue which they bring up occasionally. Best to let it drop.

They attempted to explain the whole humanoid thing across the galaxy in a TNG double episode in which all the humanoid species were shown to have evolved from a really bland smug boring-looking humanoid uber-race. I recall thinking it kinda weak in terms of dramatic payoff. Is it in anyway related back to this episode?

As you review these original Star Trek episode, I would be interested in your comments on whether the situation presented would be worth revisiting with the "new" Star Trek time line introduced in this year's film.

For example, what will happen if Henoch inhabits this Spock and sees Spock's main squeeze, Lt. Uhura? Maybe he won't be so jealous of Sargon if he has his own date.

I think to satisfy the Trekies out there, future movies will have to at least reference some of the classic show plots.

Why are there no toilets on board a ship with a five year mission?
